Join a roundtrip by bus to Trollstigen and Trollveggen during the summer season. Excursions on specific days from the port of Åndalsnes. The tours will be operating as soon as the Trollstigen Road is open. Trollstigen road opens late in May, and usually closes in the end of October, depending on the weather conditions and amount of snow. The trip is suitable for all ages. The bus will drive very slowly up the Trollstigen road, From Åndalsnes to the top of Trollstigen the distance is 17 kilometres.
Trollstigen, the road 63, is a dramatic and exciting experience. The road twists through 11 hairpin bends as it climbs up to Stigrøra (858 metres above sea level). Some places it’s cut into the mountain; and some parts are built on top of stone walls. An impressive bridge in natural stone carries it across the Stigfossen waterfall. At the top there are severeal upgraded viewpoints and a new café that opens during the summer. The road opened in the summer of 1936. Trollveggen is Europe’s highest vertical mountain wall. The top shoots stretching nearly 1,800 feet into the sky. The upper 1000 m is vertical, and there is an overhang of nearly 50 meters! Scandinavian rock climbing started in the Romsdal Alps, which boast some of the world’s most difficult climbs. On the opposite side of the valley, the Romsdalshorn peak towers to a height of 1,555 metres. Trollveggen Visitor Centre is located under the Troll Wall, and the visitor centre is a spectacular building with large panoramic windows towards Trollveggen. In the auditorium you can watch the film about the dramatic history of the Trollveggen. Climbing, rescue, drama and spectacular footage of base jumping and climbing in Troll Wall is shown, along with unique images and sound clips from Trollveggens long and unique history as a destination for adventure sports. The center includes: · Auditorium where the dramatic story of the Trollveggen is shown in a 14 min long film · Cafeteria · 200 m2 souvenir shop · A majestic views through the panoramic window of the restaurant towards Trollveggen.
