Trollstigen and Stigfossen

 Trollstigen road is still closed, but the road is open to the 3 curv where the road is closed. Further traffic and passage into the area is prohibited. The area has a lot of ice and snow and avlanches are expected.

Trollstigen road and the road from Åndalsnes to Gerianger, also called The Golde Route, was in 2012 given status as a National Tourist Road.

Trollstigen - the road(road 63)  is a dramatic and exciting experience. The road twists through 11 hairpin bends as it climbs up to Stigrøra (858 metres above sea level). In some places it is cut into the mountain; in others it is built on top of stone walls. An impressive bridge in natural stone carries it across the Stigfossen waterfall. At the top there are severeal upgraded  viewpoints and a new cafe that opens during the summmer. The road opened in the summer of 1936.
